Various method of Treatments for Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare cancer that develops in the abdominal cavity, specifically in the mesothelial cells that form the peritoneum.

Treatment Methods:
  • Multimodality Treatment
  • Palliative Treatment
Multimodality Treatment - It has shown encouraging results in some patients. With this method, two or more treatment options are completed at the same time, often involving the combination of surgery, chemotherapy and sometimes radiotherapy. However, this mesothelioma treatment method can only be used for a small percentage of patients that have a chance to beat the cancer.

Palliative Treatment - This usually involve some form of chemotherapy and are aimed to improve the overall quality of life for the patient. Chemotherapy drugs for peritoneal patients have included but are not limited to cisplatin, doxorubicin, carboplatin and pemetrexed (Alimta). In some cases, such medications have been noted to stall the progression of mesothelioma tumors.

HydroRecyclean System - An alternative way for Asbestos Cleaning
Tuesday, June 30, 2009
We all know that asbestos are the hazardous substance for human being which leads to lung cancer and mesothelioma cancer. The treatment options are very less for this dangerous disease. As per the axiom "PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE", rather finding the treatment options, get to know the prevention tips. The one and only way is the "Asbestos Cleaning" which is also the best method to avoid such infection. Eco Cleaning Systems is the leading environmentally responsible cleaning products manufacturer in Port Clinton, Ohio. Recently, they have introduced a new technology based cleaning system called as HydroRecyclean System which is the fully automatic and integrated system to recover wastewater, filter it on site for reuse and convert recovered contaminants into non-leachable materials that can often be disposed of in general landfills. The HydroRecyclean system can be used as "Asbestos Cleanup System" which has many filtration applications used to safely filter out the harmful contaminants such as hydrocarbons, oils, grease, cleaning chemicals, heavy metals such as lead and asbestos. The HydroRecyclean system is eco-friendly and hassle-free.

Breaking News: Intake of Olive Oil could reduce Cancer risk
Saturday, May 30, 2009
The olive tree, Olea europaea, is native to the Mediterranean basin and parts of Asia Minor. The fruit and compression-extracted oil have a wide range of therapeutic and culinary applications. Olive oil also constitutes a major component of the "Mediterranean diet." The chief active components of olive oil include oleic acid, phenolic constituents, and squalene. The main phenolics include hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, and oleuropein, which occur in highest levels in virgin olive oil and have demonstrated antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are believed to be responsible for a number of olive oil's biological activities.

Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid, has shown activity in cancer prevention, while squalene has also been identified as having anti cancer effects. Olive oil consumption has benefit for colon cancer and breast cancer prevention. The oil has been widely studied for its effects on coronary heart disease (CHD), specifically for its ability to reduce blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. Antimicrobial activity of hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, and oleuropein has been demonstrated against several strains of bacteria implicated in intestinal and respiratory infections.

Four-Gene Expression Ratio Test for Survival in Patients Undergoing Surgery for Mesothelioma
Wednesday, May 6, 2009
Researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital completed a study of a four-gene expression ratio test that potentially predict the survival in cancer patients diagnosed with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma.

The researcher team tested the four-gene expression ratio test on 120 malignant pleural mesothelioma patients. Participants had to agree to undergo aggressive surgery and the study excluded patients unwilling to do so. Multiple samples from the patient’s tumors were gathered during surgery or through pleural biopsy. Researchers evaluated the test on the collected samples, using two separate micro array platforms (large gene samples) and two different biopsy procedures.

After adjusting for other clinical factors, the test was able to forecast survival for the mesothelioma patients. Once gene-ratio test results were combined with known mesothelioma prognosis information, patients could be separated into high-risk and low-risk groups. High-risk patients yielded a median survival rate of 6.9 months. The low-risk group median survival rate reported 31.9 months.

The results of the tests could allow patients to better understand their treatment options. Mesothelioma patients whose tests suggested poor outcomes and are not prime candidates for surgery could be persuaded towards other supportive treatments. Patients with better test results may be more apt to select surgical treatments and may gain a psychological edge from the results.
