- Intervention
Due to a large rate of asbestos use in mining, Australia has one of the highest rates of mesothelioma in the world. According to recent studies, over 600 cases are diagnosed each year in Australia and that number is not expected to decline. It is estimated that most public buildings, hospitals, schools and homes built between 1840 and 1987 in Australia contain asbestos. The Asbestos Action Plan demonstrates the Australian Government’s commitment to work together with industry and community organizations to address this terrible contagion.
